Faizal (b.1965) is from Solo, Central Java. He graduated from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts in Yogyakarta (ISI) in 1986. He won two awards in Yogyakarta for Best Sketching and Best Painting in 1986. In 1990, he received another Best Painting award on the 6th Anniversary of ISI. One of his works earned him the “Medaille du Conseil Generale-Prix D Honneur in France in 1991.
Faizal was influenced by Paul Klee and Jean Dubuffet. His paintings are colourful and often filled with imaginary and fantasy characters. The artist executes naïve works with complex depth and detail. He tends to depict delightful scenes with the flavor of folk-tales. With his unique style, Faizal has attracted the attention of the art world since early 1990s.
