Multi-talented Dick Lee has firmly established himself as a composer and performer, often recognised through his works as the spokesperson for the New Asian generation.
Lee was born in 1957 and at the age of fifteen he participated in various talent contests. His first album, LIFE STORY, featuring his own compositions, was released in 1974. Lee then went on to champion the inclusion of Asian elements in pop music throughout the 70s and 80s. This was evident in his pioneering album, LIFE IN THE LION CITY (1984) and THE MAD CHINAMAN (1989) album, which achieved platinum status in Singapore in three months.
In 1990 Lee moved to Japan where he continued to develop the new Asian identity through his solo work, as well as collaborate with top Asian artistes such as Sandy Lam from Hong Kong. He has written countless songs for top singing talents in Asia including Jackie Cheung, Andy Lau, Sammi Cheng and Anita Mui.
Lee studied fashion and graduated from the Harrow School of Art in London.
Galerie Belvedere is pleased to have launched this Singaporean Icon as a visual artist with his very first exhibition in 2013, entitled “Imperfect Memory”, that featured 24 works in mixed media on paper.
